Read the competition-specific format and requirements carefully. The festival-wide rules below apply as well.

The challenge

Create an original fan-fiction story inspired by a book, series or literary universe of your choice.
Reimagine what happens after the original ending, write an alternate ending, introduce a plot twist or take familiar characters on a new adventure.
The story must feature characters, settings or elements from an existing literary work and should reinterpret rather than simply retell it.
Entries must have a clear plot, engaging characterisation and a creative, age-appropriate narrative without explicit, hateful or discriminatory content.

Submission requirements

Junior entries must be 800–1,200 words. Senior entries must be 1,200–1,800 words.
Entries must be typed in Times New Roman, 12 pt, with 1.5 line spacing and submitted as a PDF named Name_School_Grade. The submission email will be confirmed.
Judging is blind. The participant’s name, school and grade must appear only on a separate cover sheet and nowhere in the story.
Every entry must include a signed declaration that it is entirely the participant’s own work. Plagiarism and AI use in any form result in disqualification.
Late entries will not be accepted after the submission deadline, which will be announced.

Judging and publication

Originality: 25 marks · Storytelling: 25 marks · Characterisation: 20 marks · Language: 20 marks · Overall impact: 10 marks.
The best entries will be shortlisted as Fan Fiction Finalists.
By entering, participants grant the organisers the right to publish their entry in Kloudnine Magazine and other festival material, with credit to the author.

Participants must report at the venue 30 minutes before their scheduled competition.
Registration closes on a date to be confirmed. Entries received after the announced deadline will not be accepted.
Unless stated otherwise in a competition’s rules, a maximum of 2 entries or teams per school per competition will be allowed.
Mobile phones, smart watches, dictionaries, the internet and AI tools of any kind are prohibited during all on-site rounds, except where a competition’s rules expressly permit them.
Plagiarism, unfair means or misconduct towards volunteers, judges, organisers or other participants will lead to immediate disqualification.
The judges’ decision is final and binding in all competitions. No appeals will be entertained.
The organisers reserve the right to amend, reschedule or cancel any competition, and to photograph and publish the event and submitted entries, with credit to the participants.
